Granite – Surfaces

Polished surface
When stone is polished, it will get a smooth and glossy surface, which will be more resistant to water and dirt. Granite and marble may have tiny holes. These holes will fill with any fluid left “too long” on the worktop and thus cause a stain (heavily coloured fluids will cause distinct stains).

Honed grinded surface
A mat grinded surface gives the stone a more natural look than that of a polished surface. A mat grinded stone has a more open surface and may therefore be difficult to maintain. SPEKVA recommend that light coloured granite is not mat grinded as it will make the surface more receptive to dirt and therefore requires a higher degree of maintenance.

Water flamed surface
The surface is a result of high pressure washing of the granite, which causes the surface to break and become uneven. Then the surface is brushed leaving the worktop surface beautiful and easy to clean. This method ensures that the granite keeps it original depth in colour to a much higher degree than that of burnt surfaces.
